If you are a white woman and you want to call yourself a feminist, you must acknowledge that your whiteness affords you a privilege that shields you from a lot. You must also acknowledge that you are afforded privileges that some men in this country do not have. Racism and sexism are tightly intertwined. You cannot fight one while ignoring the other. Government assistance in America is invisible until black people receive it. Then it becomes racialized, demonized and stigmatized. By Melissa Harris-Perry and Karen Finney (paraphrased), commenting on a recent New York Times editorial wherein black farmers were all but vilified as ‘lazy takers’ who gamed the system —for winning an historic discrimination lawsuit against the USDA: Pigford v. Rappers who publicly support gay marriage

ibetmittromney:

  • Kanye West
  • Jay-Z
  • Nicki Minaj
  • 50 Cent
  • Lil B
  • A$AP Rocky
  • Fat Joe
  • Queen Latifah

Please stop fucking acting like Macklemore is this special snowflake for being a rapper who supports gay marriage. I know yall love to pretend that black people are homophobes, so obviously the music we make must be homophobic, but that is bullshit and Wacklemore is not the first rapper to publicly support gay marriage.

maisonmartinmargielous:

my point about ironic fans of rap music is why I can’t stand those shitty acoustic white ppl covers of rap songs

because you think it’s funny to juxtapose your whiteness with “ratchet” rap lyrics to show how “hilarious” you think the lyrics are when you try to put it in the context of an art form you find more legitimate and superior

you are completely stripping the music of it’s context and butchering it for your own amusement I can’t stand it
